Collingwood Park convenience store

The car park was in need of repair. We powerbroomed the surface, corrected all potholes, and resurfaced it with 35 mm thick asphalt. All necessary line marking was done a few days later.

Ipswich Driveway

Construction of a new driveway for an Ipswich residence.

The owners of this Ipswich residence required a new driveway to be constructed between the fence and home and taken through to a new structure at the rear. The top layers of earth and old grass were excavated and removed from the site. The area was then levelled and given a fall to ensure adequate drainage of the finished surface. Concrete edging was then installed and left to cure. Once the edging was completed, we then brought in a cement-treated road base. This was spread out between the edging and compacted.

The Completed Surface

With the surface prepared and concrete edging installed, we were then able to apply machine-laid asphalt to the driveway area. We then applied an emulsion tack coat, this helps in the bonding to the roadbase and then we machine-laid the asphalt to a compacted thickness of 30 mm. The entire area was then watered down to ensure that drainage was correct and water runoff directed to the correct locations. Once completed, the owner had new fences and gates fitted as well as planting vegetation down both sides of the new driveway.

Daisy Hill Walkway

350-metre-long fire truck access road into the bush, joining onto the walkway.

New Cattery at Tinana

New cattery located at Tinana, just outside Maryborough, Queensland. The area was prepped, and all earth removed from the driveway section was pushed to the sides to form raised garden beds down both sides of the new driveway. Roadbase was then added and compacted to a thickness of 200mm to support the new driveway, as the natural ground in this area was very soft. Once all preparation work had been completed, we then applied two coats of bitumen seal.

Tamborine Village Driveway

This 950m² driveway at Tamborine Village had been worked on by several other businesses over the last 20 years. It was only constructed with road base and had many issues with water eroding the surface. Because the driveway was never sealed, it also suffered from extreme dust issues. Previous repairs over the years added extra road base that corrected problems temporarily but harsh Australian weather quickly damaged it again. I had to add another 75mm of road roadbase to correct the falls and levels, then applied a two-coat bitumen seal. The job was completed in 3 days.

Mundoolun Park Revamp

Cr. Laurie Koranski from the Logan City Council commissioned a revamp of the Mundoolun Park in 2018. Southside Bitumen Driveways was contracted to construct the bike/trike tracks and play areas. We laid a concrete edging for the bike track and filled in with road roadbase. This was finished with a fine-grade asphalt. Finishing touches provided by us included all line marking painted to council requirements.

Loganholme Carpark

Acreage properties in Loganholme are being rezoned from residential to commercial. This house is being converted into a business office and required the construction of a staff and customer car park. 150mm of road base was laid and compacted, then covered with 30mm-thick asphalt. All line-marking painted as required.

Belmont Rifle Range

The Belmont Rifle Range is located on the south side of Brisbane in sunny Queensland. The centre caters for all types of firearms including pistols and clay shooting. The car park to the Belmont Rifle Range was upgraded to cater for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. A larger car park was needed for the competitors, spectators, and media. It also had to meet high visual standards for representing Australia internationally.

Cleanup & Relocation

The existing car park was an old bitumen surface in need of repairs. It was located besides the building near the entrance and catered for approximately 15 vehicles. The remaining area behind the main building was also used as a car park but was never sealed. An unmaintained garden and a few trees at the entrance were removed, and the rubbish skip bin was relocated to its new home at the rear of the new car park.

Roadbase Added

The old bitumen surface was power broomed and water cleaned, and all the potholes were filled. The new area behind the clubhouse had a layer of road base added to give us a workable surface. This allowed us to shape the surface for a more acceptable car park facility. A large water diversion hump was created at the back of the car park to direct all rainwater into a nearby creek. The entire area of almost 2000 m² was resurfaced with asphalt, linemarked as required, and a concrete shoulder was installed down the side. Because of our track record working for the council and certain departments, we were chosen for this project, and all work was completed within a short time frame.

Bitumen and Asphalt Repairs

Unit Complex Repair

NBN had laid their new services to all residents in the complex. 450 metres of the trench had to be backfilled and surfaced with new asphalt.

Uneven Surfaces

Jeep wreckers in Hervey Bay. This area was so unlevel that the stage the forklift had difficulty driving over. Removal and increasing the base thickness and then replacing the asphalt. All completed within half a day.

Joining to New Kerbing

Crestmead. Kerb and channel with drainage had been installed after the road had been constructed. We saw them cut the existing road to a uniform width then laid Asphalt to 40mm.

 Road Repair

Housing development west of Maryborough. The road had failed in various areas due to the developers not addressing the ground conditions thoroughly and not building the road to suit. The road needed to be repaired before the council would allow any property sales to go ahead. We removed all the damaged areas and laid cement-treated roadbase to 250 mm, then surfaced with asphalt.

Driveway Repair

Previous contractors installed mismatched pipes and eventually started to fail with the above driveway starting to disappear where the pipe ends meet. Complete removal and replacement of a new headwall and larger pipes than the original. Then the correct procedure is backfilling around pipes and finally resurfacing with bitumen.
